WORLD POLICY BOOKS

In A Deluge of Consequences, the first World Policy e-book, intrepid journalist Jacques Leslie takes us along on a mythic, spell-binding trip to the bucolic kingdom of Bhutan, where the planet's next environmental disaster is set to unfold.

FOCUS ON

The  World Policy Institute understands that policymakers and opinion leaders need creative ways to catalyze innovation and engage wider coalitions in solving some of the world’s biggest challenges.  By working with artists focused on the same issues, this cross-cutting initiative seeks to build a new, collaborative model for social change.

La Cienega: Ecuador's Childless Village

Santiago Arcos Veintimilla is an Ecuador-based photographer who was chosen this year for a Magnum Foundation Human Rights Fellowship.

His photo essay documenting La Cienega, a village in Ecuador without any children, appeared in the Fall 2013 edition of the World Policy Journal.

In this audio slide show, Mr. Veintimilla explains what drew him to photograph La Cienega, and why the remaining residents choose to stay despite the fact that “something terribly sad is happening there.”
