A Conversation with David Phillips on his new book, Unsilencing The Past

The Turkish-Armenian conflict has lasted for nearly a century and still continues in attenuated forms to poison the relationship between Turks and Armenians. On the occasion of his newly published book Unsilencing the Past, author David Phillips discusses these relations; the difficulties of trying to bring the two countries together to resolve their differences over what really happened in the Armenian genocide; and what steps the Turks can take to repair the damaged ties.

DAVID L. PHILLIPS is Senior Fellow and Deputy Director of the Center for Preventive Action at the Council of Foreign Relations and Director of the Peacebuilding Program at American University. He is also a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University and an analyst for NBC News. Previously Phillips was a Senior Advisor to the US State Department and the United Nations. He has written more than one hundred articles and editorials in publications such as Foreign Affairs, the New York Times, the International Herald Tribune, the Wall Street Journal, and the Financial Times.
