I wish these journalists stopped talking that crap as if Mongolians "usually used only one name" something. Mongolians of course have two-three names like anyone else in the world; they are just friendly enough to ask you to use their given name. It is nothing so "exotic", is it? I mean, do you call your friends by two names (like in official events) in daily communication? So much is the Mongolians' "going by one name". Why you have to always find something "unusual". You don't have to!
