Status Quo

the likhud strategy is to maintain the current status quo: indefinitely: forever: take every possible action to undermine the Palestinians capacity for statehood at every possible opportunity.the likhud can live with so long as there are almost no rockets from Gaza and they are free to gradually misappropriate what they want from the westbank.
personally I think the Israeli objectives are quite clear. Annex 100% of the westbank and leave Gaza as a giant prison.
The Israelis can get away with this because, as Thomas Friedman noted earlier this year, both republicans and democrats see political advantage in enthusiastically and systematically pandering to the worst rightwing elements in Israeli politics.
Sadly I see no clear pathway out of the current situation. the Palestinians are in some ways doomed to share the same fate as the Kurds or indeed pre 1948 Jews: a people but no nation. so unjust. but try telling that to Obama. his mind is on other things $$$$$$$
