I found the exchange between Mr. Salehi's and the interviewer from WPJ unusually revealing. Mr. Salehi suggested that Iran's insistence on her independence bears a cost - regrettably. In other words, Mr. Salehi acknowledged the "pain" and said that Iranians believed that independence was worth the "pain". The interviewer followed up later by expressing concern for Iranians and the impact of sanctions. Having listened to Mr. Salehi, the interviewer perhaps surmised that Iranians think the price being paid through this economic war is worth it. Nonetheless, he asked the question again, knowing fully well that this economic war being waged by the West has at its stated goal Iran's compliance! I expect that at a future interview, when Mr. Kerry is confirmed as the new Sec. of State, the interviewer will pose the question: "I am really concerned about the pain being born by the Iranian people as a result of these sanctions - which don't seem to be smart at all. Why do you think it is worth it to punish these ordinary Iranians when we say we don't have a quarrel with them?"
