WPI Thanks Joe Cari for His Service as Chairman of the Board

After three years as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Joseph A. Cari Jr. has stepped down as Chairman and as a member of the Board of Directors of WPI.

“This was not an easy decision to make and I have been honored to be a part of such an important organization,” Cari said. “Given the current state of affairs and rising tides of nationalism around the world, WPI’s work is more important than ever and I know that it will continue on to great things with the strong leadership of the board and such a dedicated, talented team.”

With a career that spans both the public and private sector, Cari brought an impressive network of globally minded individuals and institutions into the World Policy community. He facilitated the creation of a partnership with one of the leading global foundations, the Edmond de Rothschild Foundation. Through this partnership, World Policy is now engaging entrepreneurs throughout the global south, helping shift the narrative on philanthropy and connecting emerging philanthropic leaders across borders.

As Chair, Cari succeeded in helping a small and nimble think tank punch far above its weight. Under his leadership, World Policy made strides in establishing institutional partnerships with prestigious universities, which supported the first stand-alone World Policy-affiliated research center at a university.

Cari also supported the successful launch of several critical new initiatives on global health and migration, which opened the door to additional international partnerships. Through all of this, he continued to bring in quality speakers, including U.S. Vice President Al Gore and Mexican President Vicente Fox, host intimate and insightful events, and expand WPI’s international network further and wider than ever before.

Of course, these are just a few of the highlights of Cari’s valuable time as Chairman. Throughout his tenure, Cari was a crucial source of support to WPI, making substantial contributions of his time, networks, and financial support as one of the largest individual donors during his tenure.

The World Policy Institute thanks Cari for his hard work and devotion, which have helped ensure that World Policy is well positioned to continue as an important voice in global affairs.

John Watts, a current member of the Board of Directors who previously served as Chairman, has been appointed as Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors.
