Cocktail Reception & Discussion with John Lipsky

John Lipsky's service at the International Monetary Fund coincided with the onset of the greatest economic and financial challenges faced by the rapidly globalizing world. In this private dinner discussion, Dr. Lipsky will offer his analysis of the shortcomings of the current system of international economic governance, and what needs to change in order to ensure the coordination needed to maintain an increasingly interconnected economy.

About John Lipsky
Dr. Lipsky served as the IMF’s First Deputy Managing Director from 2006 to 2011, and was subsequently Special Advisor to Christine Lagarde in preparation for the Fund's participation in the November 2011 G20 Leaders Summit in Cannes. 

Dr. Lipsky was central to the IMF’s efforts to halt the global downturn, re-establish economic and financial stability, and restart growth through unprecedented international policy cooperation.

John, prior to his role, was Vice Chairman of JPMorgan Investment Bank, Chief Economist of JPMorgan Chase, and Chief Economist & Director of Research at Chase Manhattan Bank.

He serves on the board for the National Bureau of Economic Research, the Center for Global Development, and the advisory board of the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research.

A Distinguished Visiting Scholar of International Economics at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, Dr. Lipsky also serves as co-director of the Aspen Institute’s Program on the Global Economy, as Non-Executive Director of HSBC Holdings PLC, Global Policy Advisor to Anderson Global Macro, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Dr. Lipsky received his Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University.
