What’s Gone Wrong with the European Union—Britain, In or Out?

World Policy Institute is hosting its next World Economic Roundtable luncheon, featuring Geoffrey Van Orden, Member of the European Parliament from UK’s Conservative Party, who will share his thoughts on “What’s Gone Wrong with the European Union—Britain, In or Out?” He will explore the possibility of a Brexit and its implication for Britain and the future of Europe.

About the Speaker

Following his career as a senior British Army officer, Geoffrey Van Orden MBE, was elected as Conservative Member of the European Parliament for the East of England in 1999 and re-elected in 2004, 2009 and 2014. In his capacity as a Member of the European Parliament, Mr. Van Orden is Conservative spokesman on Defence and Security Policy. He currently sits on the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Security and Defense Subcommittee, and is also a member of the delegations to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly and to Turkey. He is Chairman of the Delegation for Relations with India. Mr. Van Orden has played a crucial role in the creation of the European Conservatives and Reformists group in the European Parliament, over which he presides as Vice Chairman.

Mr. Van Orden is also the founding president of New Direction - The Foundation for European Reform, and Chairman of Friends of Sri Lanka. In addition, he is a member of the Countryside Alliance, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and the Bow Group.
