THE DEVIL CAME ON HORSEBACK: BEARING WITNESS TO THE GENOCIDE IN DARFUR

In 2005, World Policy Journal was the first publication to print a shocking set of photographs that brought the ethnic cleansing in Darfur to the attention of the world. The photo essay helped to launch former Marine Captain Brian Steidle's quest to convince global leaders to condemn the acts as genocide, to intervene on behalf of the victims, and to help the survivors.  Steidle’s story became a book, The Devil Came on Horseback: Bearing Witness to the Genocide in Darfur, and now a documentary film. The first feature-length, award-winning documentary on Darfur, The Devil Came on Horseback, presents a compelling portrait of an ordinary American who chose to make a difference when presented with a moral dilemma, a story which can inspire any individual to take action on this cause.

Recognizing the ongoing relevance of the Darfur tragedy, World Policy Journal is now offering new subscribers, or current subscribers who renew for two years, a free DVD of the acclaimed documentary, The Devil Came on Horseback, about Steidle’s quest to awaken the world to the tragedy in Darfur.

"Through the early support of the World Policy Journal and editor Karl Meyer in exposing my photographs from the front-lines in Darfur and introducing me to Nicholas Kristof at the New York Times, I was able to share with the world what was     really happening in Darfur."
