This event comes on the heels of the release of Transatlantic Trends: Immigration, which compares transatlantic as well as cross-country opinion on immigration and integration issues. Some of the topics included in this year's survey are: public perception of immigrants' labor market impacts and effects on wages, the effect of the economic crisis on attitudes toward immigration, and preferences for temporary vs. permanent labor migration programs. The survey also gauges opinion on a legalization program for illegal immigrants and asks respondents to rate their governments' current job of immigration management.

About the Speakers
Delancey Gustin works in the German Marshall Fund's Immigration and Integration Program and is based in Washington, D.C. At GMF, she has been the project manager of the Transatlantic Trends: Immigration (TTI) survey since its beginning in 2008. Prior to joining GMF, she worked for an immigration law consultancy, aiding immigration lawyers and corporate HR managers in processing business visa applications for foreign nationals. While at the company, she also oversaw the production of a documentary about the H-1B visa "cap" and presented the film to congressional staff in Washington. Ms. Gustin holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Columbia University and also studied at the University of Rome "La Sapienza."
Michele Wucker is the Executive Director of the World Policy Institute. She has been writing about migration and global economics for more than 20 years. Her first book, Why the Cocks Fight: Dominicans, Haitians, and the Struggle for Hispaniola (1999), shows how debates over the culture of immigrants are often used to obscure pressing policy failures. That theme continues in her second book, Lockout: Why America Keeps Getting Immigration Wrong When Our Prosperity Depends on Getting It Right (2006). Ms. Wucker studied policy studies and French at Rice University and international affairs at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs. She is a member of the Young Leaders Study Group on the Future of Europe, which is organized by the ACG and the Dräger Foundation and is focusing on demographic trends, migration, and questions of social cohesion.
