He recounts the single-minded pursuit of huge personal wealth that has been on the rise in the United States since the 1970s, led by a few individuals who have argued that self-interest guides society more effectively than community concerns.

The Study Group on the Economics of Security
In a Post-9/11 World

The next meeting of the Study Group on the Economics of Security in a Post-9/11 World will be held Friday, March 19, 2004. Study Group member David Bertau will be presenting his paper "Homeland Security: The Big Questions."

David Berteau is a consultant with Clark and Weinstock, with over 15 years experience in senior defense management positions. He is a faculty member of Syracuse University's Maxwell School and serves on the NASA Advisory Council as a Public Administration representative. Berteau has previously served on three Defense Science Board task forces and two summer studies. We are delighted that he has agreed to present to the Study Group.

Berteau wrote "Homeland Security: The Big Questions" with Professor Phil Joyce of George Washington University and Amy Donahue, Assistant Professor at University of Connecticut. We will provide you with his paper as soon as it is available.
