WPI - Arms Trade Resource Center: Economics of Security Study Group - October 15, 2004

ARMS TRADE RESOURCE CENTER

Dear Friends,

So far we have had a good response for the Fall semester's first meeting of the "Study Group on the Economics of Security in the Post 9/11 World." We look forward to hearing that more of you will attend.

Our topic will be "Economic and Budgetary Aspects of the War on Terror," led by David Gold, Professor of Economics with the New School's Graduate Program in International Affairs and Cindy Williams, Senior Research Fellow in MIT's Security Studies Program.

Professor Gold's "Some Economic Considerations in the U.S. War on Terrorism," which was published in The Quarterly Journal, and Professor Williams' "Paying for the War on Terrorism: U.S. Security Choices since 9/11," a paper prepared for an ECAAR Panel on "Real Homeland Security" are attached as PDF files. A more in-depth article by Professor Gold can be found on Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO), as a teaching case study, Economics of Terrorism, www.ciaonet.org/casestudy/god01
