National Summit on Cuba: New Jersey, 2006
To be held
Saturday, October 28, 2006,
Center for Law and Justice,
123 Washington Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102.
Recent developments in Cuba have raised new questions about the future of the island,
U.S. policy and the role of the Cuban American community. Some of the most pressing issues
will be debated and discussed in an attempt to find common ground at the upcoming National
Summit on Cuba: New Jersey, 2006.
The day-long Summit will provide diverse, expert opinions and an open forum for understanding
the current state of the Cuban economy, the rationale behind U.S. policy toward the island, race in Cuba,
human rights perspectives as well as points of view from the Cuban American community and the key
New Jersey elected officials who help shape national policy toward Cuba. A reception hosted by the Rutgers Race and the Law Review will follow the day’s events,
providing an informal opportunity for attendees to further discuss the issues presented
throughout the day. Please consult the agenda below for specifics and join us for what will be a stimulating and informative event.

Featured Event:
Screening of THOSE I LEFT BEHIND a new film by Lisandro Perez-Rey Followed by Cuban American Panel Discussion
Trapped between the sea and the politics of governments, Cuban families on either side of the Florida straits have endured nearly a half-century of separation and loss. Filmed in both the United States and Cuba, this documentary explores the transnational ties that bind Cuban-Americans in the United States to their families still living on the island and sheds light on the controversial new travel restrictions imposed by the U.S. Government and its emotional impact on the lives of four Cuban families.
