[Editors Note: The Burmese state of Rakhine is currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis as minority Rohingya Muslims clash with ethnic Rakine Buddhists. The violence has so far left scores dead, and sent tens of thousands of refugees over the border into Bangladesh.

THE INDEX — June 22, 2010
Gunpowder exploded underground in Pingdingshan City in central China, killing at least 46 miners. The state-run Xinhua news agency is reporting at least 26 miners, of the 72 that were underground at the time of impact, were able to make it to safety.
